Is Cornell University worth the cost, and how good is the financial aid?
Yes! And the financial aid is generally excellent. If you qualify for need-based financial aid, you will almost always receive aid and can appeal for more if your initial aid package is not enough. Additionally, Cornell offers programs such as Cornell Traditions, federal work-study, and Cornell work-study grants, which all help with covering tuition costs. You can use the aid calculators on this website to better understand what your financial aid package may look like. https://finaid.cornell.edu/financial-aid-calculators

How hard are the academics at Cornell University?
Cornell is quite rigorous, but, of course, it depends on your major. Cornell has a very competitive academic culture, but it produces very bright thinkers. Additionally, there is plenty of support if you know where to look, using the learning strategies center, tutoring services offered within each college, TA office hours, meeting 1:1 with professors, and even upperclassmen who have taken the same classes are all excellent resources that have made a huge difference in my academic career.

What are the dorms really like at Cornell University?
It truly depends on where you are randomly placed. You might get lucky and be placed in one of the newer dorms. These facilities are really beautiful, are hallway-style, typically separated by gender, and have suite-style bathrooms where 2 complete bathrooms with locks are shared by 9-12 students, with communal kitchens. In the older buildings, the vibe tends to be cozier, with slightly larger rooms, and they will have traditional communal bathrooms and kitchens. While the amenities may not be as new, the older dorms tend to form tighter-knit communities and have better community building overall than the newer ones.
