About Pauline
Hi! I'm a UNC Chapel Hill student with Audhd. I live on campus in a single and often have to navigate what it means to be disabled in a high achievement university setting. I'm majoring in psychology in order to better help other people with their own disabilities!

Is UNC Chapel Hill worth the cost, and how good is the financial aid?
It's honestly the most cost-effective high ranked university in my opinion. More research could probably be done, but I get a very big refund every semester.

What is the town or city around UNC Chapel Hill like for students?
It's a bit expensive but it thrives off of students. There are some places to go to, such as the Cat's Cradle, which is kinda like a club. Carrboro is where the nightlife is most of the time. I went to a drag show once during my freshman year. Holidays like Halloween are also really crazy in a good way. Last Halloween there were horses painted as skeletons. It's very student friendly. Not many places offer to have outside food or drink in, and most places want paying customers to be able to sit inside or use the bathroom. As I said, it's a little expensive.

How diverse and inclusive does UNC Chapel Hill actually feel?
It honestly doesn't feel very inclusive from a neurodivergent stand point.

What mental health and academic support does UNC Chapel Hill offer?
I'll be honest, I've never felt too welcomed as a student with Audhd. They have the CAPS (counseling and psychological services) 24/7 call line for mental health, but their main objective is to just assuage the problem at hand while ignoring the root. It can be hard to get counseling at CAPS, because, for example, I had to get re-diagnosed for ADHD. I've also been in a few CAPS groups, such as an autistic students group, and the consensus was that CAPS kinda sucks. They do offer accommodations, however. It is extremely hard to get attendance accommodations and you need to inform the instructor beforehand when you plan to be absent. They also offer recording software for students with ADHD and the permission to go out into the hallway to take a break from the classroom setting, as well as other accommodations such as testing, housing (I have only lived in a single), etc.
