About Emma
Hi, I'm Emma, and I'm a third year at The Ohio State University! I'm a psychology major with a Spanish minor. I'm involved in student council, research, and psychology honors society. I'm also a Psychology Department Ambassador, so I am very knowledgeable on our Psych program in general. I also love the school spirit here, and can speak to making friends (and going out!).

Is the campus and area around Ohio State University safe?
The campus itself at Ohio State is completely safe. As women, my friends and I are completely comfortable walking around ON campus during the day or at night. It's important to be aware of safety outside of campus, though, especially on High Street at night, or in the woods/trail by the Olentangy River. For anyone, but especially women, I wouldn't go off campus alone at night, although it is completely fine in groups. At the end of the day, Columbus is a city, and there will be unhoused people and sketchiness at night off campus. Still, compared to Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Toledo, Columbus is generally one of the safer Ohio cities. Although I've experienced slight catcalling and heckling, I've never truly felt in danger on or near campus, especially when in a group setting.

Is the social scene at Ohio State University actually any good?
Honestly, I would say the social scene at Ohio State is FANTASTIC. I have had absolutely no trouble making friends or finding parties (if that's something you're looking for). There are also a ton of clubs to join, which is great for making friends, and the spirit for football games is unmatched. That said, Ohio State is a huge school. It is easy to remain anonymous if you don't join extracurriculars or greek life, leave your room much, or talk in your classes. There are a ton of friendly people and fun opportunities here, but you have to take charge and put yourself out there.

What are the dorms really like at Ohio State University?
As a huge university, the quality of the dorms, especially for first-years, is inconsistent. You can expect a Twin-XL bed, a mini-fridge, a microwave, and 1-3 roommates (although there are singles available, especially if you have special circumstances). Most dorms have communal bathrooms, although some are en-suite. It's truly luck of the draw. You may wind up with a spacious double, a great roommate, and and en-suite bathroom, or you may end up with three roommates, communal bathrooms, and a far walk from most of your classes. It's hard to say!
