Is West Virginia University worth the cost, and how good is the financial aid?

I'll give the most honest answer as an out-of-state transfer student. The financial aid is not good at all. Tuition is very expensive. This is due to a larger political issue of cutting education funds rather than the university itself. If you are passionate and have good finances, go for it. But you have to be all in.

What are the dorms really like at West Virginia University?

I can only speak for Boreman Hall North, which is a trad all girls dorm style right next to fraternity houses. Trad dorms are pretty small and you use communal style bathrooms which can be jarring for new students. But, Boreman specifically is all about social life! All the dorms have weekly events and hang outs where you can chill in the common room with your floor.

Is the social scene at West Virginia University actually any good?

WVU is very big in the fraternity/sorority scene, but there are other social opportunities at the university! Dorming is such a good way to interact with new people + every weekend we have an Up All Night gathering where you can come hang out, eat food, and play games with a bunch of people! :)

How hard are the academics at West Virginia University?

Like any university, the difficulty of a class depends a lot on the professor teaching it. However, I will say, be prepared to use outside resources like Rate My Professor to gauge if a professor's teaching style fits YOUR learning style. Being in college means being able to adapt to new situations! Overall, the academic difficulty is a bit high, but you will find so many resources to help you at NO additional cost!
