Pomona College · Freshman
Pomona was not originally where I thought I wanted to go. Over the course of the months-long college admissions process, I grew to understand the significant advantages of education at a Liberal Arts College, to the point where I eventually picked Pomona over much more well-known public R1 univsities, Ivy League and Ivy+ colleges, and other LACs such as Williams, Swarthmore, and Oberlin. I would consider myself especially knowledgeable in the different pros and cons of each type of institution.

Attending college is something I look forward to throughout the year. When I was a senior in high school, I was terrified to start college or having an undecided major. My second semester at SSU, was my turning point. With my classes, my friends, and my community, college became the best thing I’ve ever done.

Kenyon College · Junior
Kenyon presents its own unique benefits and challenges. I was nervous to attend an elite institution as a low-income student from South Florida, but Kenyon's supportive faculty and community has made the adjustment easier (especially the Orientation program). It's easy to find your people through affinity groups, clubs/organizations, and activities. I was pleasantly surprised by the encouragement of opportunities like study abroad, on-campus jobs, and engaging with various academic departments.

What I love about Duke Kunshan? The collisions: discussing Confucius over midnight dumplings, taking the high-speed rail to Shanghai for an afternoon, then returning to a campus where everyone somehow knows everyone. What surprised me: how small the world becomes. A roommate from China, a friend from Brazil, a professor recommending a noodle shop. What I wish I knew: say yes more often to 火鍋 (hot pot) invitations, and conversations that begin with, “Want to grab 咖啡 (coffee)?”
