UTA surprisingly is a great school. It's very financially achievable to attend, there are some truly great professors (not all of them though 👀), and the food was tasty most days. There's always something happening on campus, you just have to keep an eye out for the posters. The only real downside is the traffic - we have an abundance of commuters, so you definitely have to take that into account.

I love that it's an R1 research school, that mean lots of money for research opportunities. I like that it's an urban campus in the middle of the city. Great food all around. What I love about Duke Kunshan? The collisions: discussing Confucius over midnight dumplings, taking the high-speed rail to Shanghai for an afternoon, then returning to a campus where everyone somehow knows everyone. What surprised me: how small the world becomes. A roommate from China, a friend from Brazil, a professor recommending a noodle shop. What I wish I knew: say yes more often to 火鍋 (hot pot) invitations, and conversations that begin with, “Want to grab 咖啡 (coffee)?”
